Information

Alana Sproule is an artist who builds things from paper + string.

Her work touches on memory, nostalgia and popular/not so popular culture. Her love of text fuels most of her work and she is interested in out of context bits of information, allowing the viewer to create a fresh narrative for the words involved.

Tiny stitches take on a meditative nature in her embroidery, repurposed vintage doilies + handkerchiefs are often used as a base for her textile work.

Alana builds collages and zines from gathered memories, collected or found paper items and children’s books. Her zines are an amalgamation of the people she knows combined with the moments they’ve shared: the views of a wallflower made into a tangible release. The importance of words is visible as both a communicative tool and as an art form with an emphasis on tracking her own existence for future use.

Alana lives + works in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada.
